The 2011 International Whitewater Hall of Fame induction was a success for the our inductees and attendees!  Induction Day was highlighted by a trip on the Chili Bar section of the South Fork American River and the banquet Saturday night at the Sierra Nevada House in Coloma, California.  Keith Miller (California Canoe and Kayak), with the assistance of Charles Albright from Reno, Nevada, rallied a great group of paddlers to kayak and raft the reach under sunny skies and a good release level. Rafting support was provided by Scott Armstrong of All Outdoors, and river shuttle provided by Dan Crandall.

Inductee Richard Bangs attended with his family, and Class of ’06 member Tom Johnson (age 92)and his daughter Leeann Johnson Preston flew from Michigan to join the festivities.

IWHOF Board of Governors Pam Dillon, David Mason and Risa Shimoda represented the evening event sponsors.   The number of inductees now totals 39 individuals and IWHOF is honored to be here to honor them.

Member of the IWHOF Board of Governors David Mason, noted:  “It was great fun seeing old wildwater friends like Charles Albright; I thoroughly enjoyed the raft trip. However, the highlight had to be listening to the Tom Johnson tales.  Being reminded of his list of “firsts” was unbelievable.  He was truly a pioneer and as sharp as can be for someone his age.  His daughter, LeAnne, will surely get a jewel in her crown for going out of her way to get him there.”

How can you be involved?  Do you know one or more individuals who deserve to be included in the ranks of IWHOF legends?  Well, only those nominated can be voted upon and chosen for induction, so gather up photos and video, fill out the nomination form, and submit a recommendation for next year’s election!

IWHOF is run by a volunteer board, so your support for future elections and inductions allows IWHOF to move forward to another election year.  Help with next year’s video or website, or just spread the word about submitting a nomination package for next year’s heroes!
